Good Work: Leave a Legacy, Teach
M. Scott Peck suggests that love is extending yourself to serve another person’s growth. In this sense, teaching is the essence of love. To teach is to leave a legacy of expanded human potential. It is a calling that every man, women and child has the opportunity to participate in - the highest calling of human existence and the greatest gift of the human spirit.
Good Work: A Whack in the Head
A non-voluntary job change is hard. Returning to zero means creating a new identity around competency and calling, a set of possibilities, rather than a title on a business card. It requires an inventory that takes perspective that other people may need to help you assemble. It requires you to ask, “What do I enjoy doing? ‘What am I good at?’ and ‘Where have I found success and satisfaction?” Coming from a new place requires a break with the past. It always requires introspection deep enough to find a new center, a new calling, and a new purpose.

We all know that something in our educational processes is not right. Our businesses talk about how our graduates lack skills, our government talks about how we are falling behind as a nation, our neighbor talks about how they can’t find a job and our schools talk about how frustrated they are. Like the scene in the movie Moneyball “blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.” All talk aside, what is the fix? We can even debate it, yet not many will argue that something needs to change. Once we starting fixing our nation’s education our neighborhoods can begin to regain their confidence, our communities can start to feel like an actual community and our local economies may just start to pick up.

Good Work: Attitude is Everything
Of the things you can control as a leader, your attitude may be the most important. Attitude makes all the difference, and it is up to you. Be conscious about your attitude. More specifically, be conscious about how other people perceive your attitude. With a positive attitude you will sell more, teach more, convince more, and be a better friend. Attitude is everything.

Robin Lake Takes New Leadership Role as Director of CRPE
