10 D.C. Public Charters Turn to SchoolForce in the Cloud

Haynes Public Charter Schools announced today that it received a $2.3 million Instructional Improvement Systems (IIS) grant through the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education's Race to the Top (RTTT) program to lead a consortium of 10 D.C. New England Schools Win $5M Grant to Develop Personalized High Schools
More than 1,300 applicants applied for the Investing in Innovation (i3) Program of the U.S. Department of Education and 30 will receive funding. Among them, The New England Network for Personalization and Performance (NENPP) received a $5 million grant to redesign and innovate a high school that prepares and motivates students for postsecondary success.

Educational Management Organizations: The Rest of the Story
The NCEP, issued its annual data compilation covering educational management organizations (EMO). While the summary sounds benign, I think it’s fair to say that the NCEP hates EMOs—especially the for-profit versions. This AFT funded report is not a sympathetic data compilation. From the ensuing stories it is clear that journalists were coached on attack strategies. EMOs have the unique opportunity to develop coherent academic models and support networks where everything works together to benefit teachers and students.
Building a Thoughtful Blend
Innosight Institute’s report The Rise of Blended Learning defines it as “any time a student learns at least in part at a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home and at least in part through online delivery with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace.” To their definition, I add a requirement that the shift to an online environment for part of the student is intended to boost learning and operating productivity.
