Getting Smart Podcast | Why Growth Mindset Matters

Growth mindset is a popular concept in education circles these days. But it’s often misunderstood. This past fall, Carol Dweck, the Stanford researcher who is often called the “founder” of growth mindset, published an article in Education Week that shares common pitfalls, misunderstandings, and what to do about them.

With this renewed perspective, we headed to the iNACOL Symposium where we talked with thought leaders, educators and students about mindsets.

In this episode of the Getting Smart Podcast, sponsored by iNACOL, we talk with Edurado Briceño, co-founder & CEO of Mindset Works, and personalized learning students from RB Stall High School from Charleston, SC.

Briceño was at the symposium as keynote speaker — he talked about growth mindset and its practical application in the field. As part of the Smart Parents book and series he wrote the wildly popular Growth Mindset Parenting blog which featured practical tips for encouraging a growth mindset that are adaptable by parents and teachers alike. We also recently featured parent blogger Jennifer Miller, who writes extensively about promoting a growth mindset in blogs such as The Power of Parenting for Social and Emotional Learning.

Consider reflecting on your own growth mindset by asking these questions and learn from others about how to do this well in the classroom or as a parent.
