What’s Next in Learning
Over a decade of inspiration, exploration and learning out loud.
We focus on ensuring equity and inclusion as it relates to learning design, learning science, educational leadership and the day-to-day work that we do with districts, teachers and learning organizations. That way, when we say we’re producing valuable work and making an impact for all learners, we mean it.

Every learner deserves an unlimited number of unbundled opportunities to explore, engage, and define experiences that advance their progress along a co-designed educational pathway. Each pathway provides equitable and personalized access to stacked learning experiences leading to post-secondary credentials and secure family-sustaining employment.
For many years (at least until 2020), we visited about 100 leading schools a year. It’s the most important form of professional learning we do for ourselves and for the educators that accompany us. It’s how we create and update a shared vision of powerful learning.
The Power of Place is a multi-year campaign that culminated in a book which offers a comprehensive and compelling case for making communities the locus of learning for students of all ages.
The Difference Making series focuses on how making a difference has a emerged as one of the most powerful learning experiences we’ve observed and how in this current moment it’s never been easier, or more important, to make a difference.
We have curated some of our many resources to support your grappling with some of the biggest questions in learning.
Each week we send out our smart update to thousands of innovators in education. This weekly newsletter shares some of the latest Getting Smart content, announcements from our partners as well as exciting news and resources in the education space.
We also use this list to share occasional announcements about Getting Smart events and releases.
Every week we send out a “What if?” question about the future of learning, community and leading. We then invite our audience to respond to the prompt, turn it into a blog post for the site or simply share it with their friends to keep driving innovation.
You may also be interested in our Getting Smart Town Halls, a free, once-per-month opportunity that creates the space to collaboratively design, discuss and discover what’s next in learning. Our time together will help to build collective momentum and understanding, better enabling us to empower every learner to thrive and act with purpose.
