Photoblog | Getting Smart at #iNACOL14 Day 3
The iNACOL Blended and Online Learning Symposium (#iNACOL14) has brought together 2,500 experts and educational leaders who are exploring the leading edge of next generation learning in K-12 education from across the United States and around the world. This annual conference is the industry’s leading event for K-12 online, blended and competency-based learning. Here is day three in photos.
Keynote. Introduced by Susan Patrick, President of iNACOL, Michael Horn, co-founder of the Clayton Christensen Institute, began day three by sharing the findings of his new book Blended: Using Disruptive Innovation to Improve Schools. Using Summit Public Schools as a school leading the way, Michael identified the process of implementing online and blended learning.
To Tweet or Not To Tweet…That is the Question. While it may initially feel like a big investment of time, social media can open doors, leverage time, and build support. Social media can help us learn, advocate, and share innovations in learning. Minda Corso, Foundation for Excellence in Education, Jenna Schuette Talbot, Whiteboard Advisors and Caroline from Team Getting Smart covered learning, impact, leadership and brand building strategies for social media. Participants shared their experiences with social media as groups worked to identify best practices and key benefits to each approach. Check out #edsocial for updates from the session.
Elevate and Empower: World Language Teachers as the Key Players in the Shift to Competency-Based Blended Learning. Following the release of Elevate and Empower, Gisele Falls, Tallwood High School, Lisa Frumkes, Rosetta Stone, Moss Pike, Harvard-Westlake School and Carri Schneider, Getting Smart, illustrated the potential for world language teachers to act as leaders in school-wide and district-wide shifts to competency-based blended learning.
