Digital Learning- Giving Students Choice for #SCW
Tomorrow, on Tuesday, January 28th at 1:00PM PT/ 4:00PM ET in honor of National School Choice week, we hope you can join us and watch the Google Hangout On Air, Digital Learning- Giving Students Choice. Our own Tom Vander Ark will be joining thought leaders Michael Horn, Susan Patrick and John Bailey to talk about what the subject of which they all share a deep passion.
National School Choice week started this Sunday, January 26th with thousands events organized across the all the 50 states. Schools are holding all types of special events to celebrate the fact that students are allowed a voice when making the choice of where to attend school.
Last year 29 governors and dozens of mayors issued proclamations and over 2,000 news stories were written highlighting the week- this year even bigger numbers are sure to be recorded.
Continuing with that celebratory spirit, we are excited to participate in one of the only fully online events celebrating digital learning during National School Choice week. What better way to highlight the power of online platforms than by using it to bring 4 digital learning advocates from across the country together to discuss the new learning opportunities for all students that digital learning provides. The Hangout on Air will bring the following four together:
Michael Horn, Co-founder and Executive Director of The Clayton Christensen Institute, a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank dedicated to improving the world through disruptive innovation.
Susan Patrick, President and CEO of iNACOL, (The International Association for K-12 Learning) which works to ensure all students have access to a world-class education and quality blended and online learning opportunities.
John Bailey, Executive Director of Digital Learning Now!, an initiative of ExcelinED, is a national campaign to advance policies to create a high quality digital learning environment for all students.
Tom Vander Ark, CEO of Getting Smart, an education advocacy firm that is passionate about innovations in learning. Getting Smart helps education organizations construct cohesive and forward-thinking strategies for branding, awareness, advancement and communication, and public and media relations.
These thought leaders will talk about how online learning will increase choice for students regardless of their zip code and provide new customized learning pathways for entire schools as well as for individual courses and even, of course, individual students.
The second half of the hour will be used to address questions posed from the Twitter back channel using the official hashtag, #SCW, using the more specific hashtag #DLchoice or on the Q&A in the Google Hangout.
Are you coming? We hope you click here and check “yes” to say you will be watching tomorrow and sharing your passion for school choice through both hashtags #SCW and #DLchoice.
