“Smart Cities, Smart Parents & GenDIY” with Linda Buchner, Driven 2 Educate Podcast
It’s hard to predict the future (as we recently discussed) but we can build useful frameworks that help update our mental models and assist us in making better decisions. In a new podcast, Tom Vander Ark talked to Linda Buchner about how Getting Smart frames emerging issues and invites experts and practitioners to contribute stories and examples. These crowdsourced thought leadership campaigns help illuminate the path forward and promote better decision making.
After a little backstory, Tom discussed three campaigns, the first two have resulted in published books:
- Smart Cities That Work for Everyone: 7 Keys to Education and Employment. The Smart Cities blog series chronicled innovations in learning in America’s great cities and includes contributions from over 70 experts.
- Smart Parents: Parenting for Powerful Learning. Sponsored by Nellie Mae Education Foundation, the book and blog series include more than 70 contributions with advice on how to take advantage of all the new learning opportunities.
- GenDIY. Features stories by and about young people charting their own course to a career they love.
Linda’s new podcast, Driven 2 Educate, has eight great shows. Topics include community development, testing, teacher retention, and making good college decisions. A great interviewer, Linda’s questions may lead you to detect her passion for working with struggling high school kids and her insight as a marketing consultant.
