School of One Named an i3 Highest Rated Applicant

By Joel Rose
School of One was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education for a $5 million Investing in Innovation (i3) grant. School of One was the fifth highest ranked application of the 1700 applicants – an extraordinary validation of our work to date. An additional $1 million in matching support will be provided by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Wallace Foundation, and the National Philanthropic Trust for the JP Morgan Charitable Giving Fund.
With their generous support, School of One will be able to enhance its adaptive and intelligent technology platform, as well as to expand to an additional four schools beginning in 2011-12. The School of One team estimates that this growth will allow us to serve over 5,000 students and families across New York City and will help lay the foundation for broader scalability.
Web Conference to Review School of One Impact on Academic Outcomes
Many of you visited us for a tour this past spring and were able to experience first-hand the engaging and interactive learning that occurs at School of One. You also may have read about us in The Atlantic, The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and Education Next, where we have been cited as a leader in developing personalized learning for students. Now you have an opportunity to discover the impact that School of One has on student academic outcomes.
The NYC Department of Education’s Research and Policy Support Group has finished its analysis of the academic outcomes of the program and will be sharing the results via a Web Conference on Monday, September 13, 2010, from 3:30 – 4:30pm ET (12:30 – 1:30pm PT).
Highlights of the analysis include:

  • Academic  results from the three after-school programs that participated
  • Academic results from the one in-school program that participated
  • Teacher and student satisfaction data

Registration is now open for this event. For more information, please visit our registration page at:
