Parent Trigger back from grave in CA

The Parent Trigger–the power to for a majority of parents to choose the best option for their kids–was dead last week.  It was given new life by the CA senate today by a one vote majority.  It faces an uphill battle in the Assembly where a member said, “This is one of those very rare moments in politics where the simple power of a good idea carried the day, even in the face of the most intense opposition.”
Parent Revolution pioneered the bargain: if a majority of parents of students in a struggling schools agree, new charter schools will open, the struggling school will be converted to a charter, or the district will deliver an acceptable improvement plan.  The bargain puts parents in the driver’s seat for the first time.
Read Executive Director Ben Austin’s opinion piece in the LA Times.  It was the closing argument for a number of CA senators.
