About

After a decade of innovative after-school and summer learning experiences, Boise nonprofit One Stone opened Lab51, a small innovative high school to help young people make the world a better place

One Stone, located in Boise, Idaho, is an independent, student-led, and tuition-free high school that focuses on empowering students to create meaningful change in their communities while preparing for college and life. Through its innovative, project-based learning model, One Stone provides a unique educational experience that emphasizes leadership, creativity, and real-world problem-solving.

The school operates on a mission-driven approach where students engage in hands-on, interdisciplinary projects that address real challenges. Learning is personalized and student-driven, allowing learners to explore their passions, develop essential skills, and take ownership of their education.

One Stone does not use traditional grades or classes. Instead, it adopts a mastery-based system where students progress by demonstrating proficiency in a range of competencies that align with both academic and life skills. The curriculum integrates subjects like design thinking, social entrepreneurship, and service learning.

In addition to academics, students participate in leadership programs and community-based initiatives, fostering personal growth and civic responsibility. The school’s unique model blends innovation with a strong emphasis on collaboration and purpose-driven learning.

One Stone also functions as a nonprofit organization, providing additional programs and resources to empower youth in the broader Boise community.
