Energy Institute High School, part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD), is the first energy-themed high school in the United States. Located in Houston, Texas, the school focuses on preparing students for careers in the energy sector and other STEM-related fields through an innovative and project-based curriculum.
Serving students in grades 9 through 12, Energy Institute High School emphasizes a hands-on approach to learning, integrating real-world challenges into its academic programs. Students work collaboratively on projects that address current issues in energy production, sustainability, and technology. The school partners with leading energy companies and organizations to provide mentorships, internships, and industry exposure, ensuring students gain practical experience and insight into their future careers.
The curriculum is designed around three specialized pathways:
- Petroleum Exploration and Production
- Alternative Energy
- Geosciences and Engineering
Students also have access to Advanced Placement (AP) courses and dual-credit programs, enabling them to earn college credits while still in high school.
