There is growing evidence that students need more skills than ever to be successful in high school, college, career and life. Not only do they need more skills, but there are specific skills that will help them to be really ready for our rapidly changing economy and workplaces.
We find that students who are really ready possess critical thinking, communication, social and emotional skills, as well as the ability to be self-directed learners with a growth mindset.
Unfortunately, low-income students, minorities, ELL students and students with special needs are still not graduating from high school at the same rate as their peers, nor are they persisting once they enroll in a 2- or 4-year college program. Students throughout their secondary education may need additional supports, extra time, scaffolds or feedback in order to be successful and develop these skills.
Fortunately, through the use of digital curriculum, many students are learning the necessary skills and receiving the personalized support they need as they work towards being really ready.
The following infographic highlights the challenge–not all students are getting what they need for college, work and life–and how particular strategies and supports can be a solution for districts looking to help all students be #ReallyReady.
