GOOD Sparks Creative Education Innovation in LA

GOODmakerGOOD and Marriott’s Live, Work and Create in L.A. Maker Challenge selected three of 10 finalists who are young entrepreneurs with big plans to make a difference in education.
In December, GOOD and Marriott asked creative entrepreneurs to submit the best ideas they want to put into action. The judges at GOOD and at Marriott narrowed down the field, the public may vote from now until January 21, 2013. The entrepreneur with the best idea will provide one finalist with the opportunity to spend a week in GOOD’s offices in Los Angeles to further develop their idea so they can make a real difference in education.
The three education finalists include:

  • Actuality Media (http://bit.ly/102g69F), an organization aiming to distribute student documentaries about global changemakers;
  • Gatherwell(http://bit.ly/13IgXAQ), a resource for online green living classes and green project funding; and
  • Educate 2020 (http://bit.ly/XH1nkK) a group looking to visit progressive educators across the country to create easily replicable programs for the rest of the institutions.

“Thanks to Good for recognizing these creative firms,” said Mike McGalliard of Imagination Foundation. “It’s worth noting the surge in the ‘maker’ movement. LA produced the ‘anthem’ of the maker movement, Caine’s Arcade, which a dozen news outlets listed it as one of the most inspiring stories of 2012.”
