About

An inquiry-driven, STEM-focused, project-based school formed as a partnership between the School District of Philadelphia and The Franklin Institute. Shared instructional values of inquiry, research, collaboration, presentation and reflection are evident in every classroom.

The Science Leadership Academy (SLA), located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a public magnet high school known for its inquiry-driven, project-based approach to education. In partnership with The Franklin Institute, SLA offers students a rigorous and engaging learning environment centered on science, technology, mathematics, and the arts.

SLA’s curriculum emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving. Students explore interdisciplinary projects, often working in teams to tackle meaningful challenges. The school’s core values—Inquiry, Research, Collaboration, Presentation, and Reflection—guide every aspect of its educational philosophy, fostering a culture of exploration and innovation.

Technology plays a vital role in SLA’s learning environment, with all students and teachers equipped with laptops to enhance collaboration and access to digital resources. Advanced Placement (AP) courses, electives, and internships further prepare students for college and career pathways.

The school’s advisory system ensures personalized support and mentorship for every student, creating a close-knit community where learners are encouraged to pursue their passions and achieve their goals. SLA also emphasizes civic engagement, encouraging students to take active roles in their communities.
