About

Founded in Providence in 1996 by Dennis Littky and Elliot Washor with the goal of teaching one kid at a time. Today the Met is six small Rhode Island public high schools and flagship of the Big Picture Learning network, a leader in internships, individual learning plans, and advisory systems.

The Met High School, located in Providence, Rhode Island, is a unique, public high school that personalizes education through real-world learning experiences. Founded in 1996, The Met is part of the Big Picture Learning network, which emphasizes individualized learning plans tailored to each student’s passions and interests.

At The Met, students take charge of their education by engaging in internships, mentorships, and hands-on projects. Learning is deeply connected to the real world, with students spending two days a week in their chosen internships, working alongside professionals in fields they are passionate about.

The school’s advisory system ensures each student receives personalized guidance and support. Small advisory groups foster strong relationships between students and advisors, who work closely to develop individualized learning plans and provide continuous mentorship.

The Met also focuses on preparing students for post-secondary success. By building a strong foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration, students graduate with a clear pathway to college, vocational training, or the workforce.

With its innovative approach to education, The Met High School empowers students to become independent learners, creative thinkers, and active contributors to their communities.
