Getting Smart Podcast | How Applied Learning is Accelerating Students to Technical Careers

Although some recent high school and college graduates enter the job market unqualified for even the most entry level positions, high school students in Wisconsin are graduating with their diploma, industry credentials and transferable postsecondary college credits.

In this episode of the Getting Smart Podcast, GPS Education Partners, a Milwaukee-based accelerated technical education program, joins our team at the iNACOL Symposium to share how they are making this possible.

GPS Education Partners team up with districts, businesses, community and technical colleges to create pathways of learning for students in technical areas of study. Students work alongside business mentors, in a real-world learning center that supports career exploration and allows students to develop valuable employability skills. At its core, GPS supports students in guiding them from high school to a destination that includes a career-facing employment opportunity.

The program is an innovative competency-based and blended model that combines face-to-face and online learning of high school and college course content with a manufacturing apprenticeship.

Here’s what the students, graduates, business partners and instructors have to say about the GPS program.
