New Anywhere Anytime Site Wants to Help You LearnBIG

LearnBIG launched last week.  It’s an anytime anywhere learning site seeking to build communities around open and proprietary content. They received some great coverage in USA Today  and GeekWire.

This is the fifth startup for Seattle-based Victor Alhadeff who founded Egghead Software in 80s, Catapult corporate training in the 90 (sold to IBM); and is currently CEO of Boost, an enterprise trainer on Google apps.

His son Jeffrey, developed the Boost platform and the course content.  With a small team he and also built the new LearnBIG site.

They raised $1 million from notable Seattle seed investors including and are hard at work on a big Series A round.

The site covers K-12 and adult training.  They want to build a big site by improving discoverability and (eventually) being able to recommend content.

Rather than competing with anywhere learning market leaders like Udemy, LearnBIG would like to send them traffic. And they’re using a variety of strategies to build traffic.  They are working with another Seattle shop, Project Bionic, on SEO.

Learner profiles will include Pinterest like content collections.  They plan to expand digital portfolio capabilities with job requirements linked to learning opportunities on career pathways–eventually offering recommendation  and a “guided path.”

It’s a big world out and LearnBIG wants to help you organize your learning.
