Collins and Halverson liken the Knowledge Revolution of the late 20th and early 21st century to a social force of the same magnitude as the Industrial revolution. Just as the earlier social transformation ushered in the era of universal schooling, so is the current one poised to redefine “school” as we have known it for the 150 years. The authors consider what may be lost in the process of moving to this new future of education and describe how schools can best capitalize on the opportunities that new technologies afford. The book also discusses the different aspects of education that require rethinking as we move from the idea of “schooling” to “education” and “lifelong learning”.
