School field trips are one of the most powerful ways to showcase innovation, reimagine possibility and inspire leaders, educators and community members. Getting Smart has led countless national field trips for small and large groups. We’ve visited hundreds of schools and created powerful learning experiences that have been the catalyst for change in numerous communities.

We’ve partnered with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to do numerous visits to further investigate and spotlight real-world learning across the country. View stories below, as well as a growing list of the cities and schools we’ve visited.

Boston

As one of the most historic cities in the U.S., Boston is known for many of its infamous landmarks and events such as Fenway Park and the Boston Marathon. But some of its lesser known claim-to-fames have contributed to making Boston a city of many firsts and impressive recognitions. Boston constructed the first public park, subway system and public school in the country. They are also doing incredible work to further real-world learning for students.

Chicago

Chicago, IL is known as the “second city” because of its miraculous efforts to rebuild itself after the Great Fire of 1871 destroyed much of the city. Today, Chicago is the nation’s 3rd largest metropolis located on the shores of Lake Michigan known as an international hub for finance, commerce, technology, telecommunications, and transportation. The greatest challenge the city faces is the oscillation between its reputation as a bustling, vibrant, multicultural city and a metropolis faced with challenges in equity, racial tensions, and violence.

Pittsburgh

Emerging as a hub for innovation in education, Pittsburgh boasts a diverse educational landscape. Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) stands as the largest public school district in the city, catering to over 23,000 students. Additionally, Pittsburgh is home to several prestigious universities and colleges, including the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, and Duquesne University. These institutions play pivotal roles in driving research and innovation across various disciplines, drawing students from around the globe. Alongside traditional educational establishments, the city has witnessed a surge in charter schools, providing parents and students with a range of educational options and fostering a dynamic learning environment.
