E-Line Media Releases New World Game: Foxtales
E-Line Media recently announced the release of the first expansion to Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna), Foxtales. Building off steam from last year’s award-winning release, Foxtales features the return of Nuna and Fox and will be available July 28 on PS4, Xbox One and Steam.
The producers immersed themselves in hundreds of Native American stories before choosing this new adventure inspired by the tale of the “Two Coastal Brothers.”
According to the release, “Spring has come to the Arctic as Nuna and Fox climb aboard their umiaq (a sealskin canoe) and take to the waters of the coasts, rivers and lakes of Northwest Alaska. They’ll travel across open seas, swim through the ruins of a sunken village and paddle up the Noatak River on a mission to rescue a new friend.”
We covered the release of Never Alone last fall and noted it is, “Based on a traditional story and the experiences of Alaska elders, storytellers and youth, Never Alone follows a young Inupiaq girl and an Arctic fox as they go on an adventure to save her village from a blizzard that never ends. E-Line calls this new category drawing upon the richness of unique cultures World Games.” E-Line media says World Games are a new genre that “draw fully upon the richness of unique cultures to create complex and fascinating game worlds for a global audience.”
Players will learn through exploring, solving puzzles and gaining valuable insights into the Alaska Native community. E-Line is known for games that both educate and entertain players. According to its website, “E-Line Media is an entertainment and educational publisher harnessing the power of games to help youth thrive in a globally connected and rapidly changing world.”
The trailer for this “World Game” illustrates the beauty behind these stories passed down through generations of Native American families.
“If you ever doubt the power of video games to elicit emotion and impact people’s lives, here is a recent, powerful article by a Native American game journalist on how playing Never Alone impacted him,” says Alan Gershenfeld, Founder and President of E-Line Media.
As mentioned last year, “Learning games hold obvious promise but games are expensive to build and have been challenging to sell. Building a viable business model has proven more difficult than building interesting games. With E-Line Media, Alan may have cracked the code on combining education and entertainment and scaling game-based learning.”
