Brighter Choices in Albany

Spent an amazing day touring Brighter Choice schools in Albany–the best example of high charter market share and high quality.  Brighter Choice serves about 25% of Albany public school students and that will grow to more than 40% as approved schools achieve full enrollment.  Of particular note:

• Most of the BC schools are single sex schools–they’ll soon have full K-12 feeder–and they are quite intentional about taking advantage of the benefits
• Great example of ‘No Excuses’ environment with strong college press, positive behavior management, long day/year, and data-driven instruction
• Sophisticated facilities financing including construction, mezzanine, and take out mechanisms yielding all great cost effective new/renovated facilities for all schools
• Smart government and parent relations activities
