Microschools in Public Systems: A Playbook for What, How and Why Now?

June 12, 2025 | 10:00 am–11:00 am PDT

Explore how public microschools offer a powerful solution for personalized, flexible, and relevant learning, designed to meet diverse local needs while fostering access, opportunity, and learner-centered innovation. The recently released Public Microschool Playbook, co-created by Getting Smart Collective, Learner-Centered Collaborative, and Transcend, provides step-by-step guidance on planning, designing, and implementing tuition-free, publicly funded microschools within existing systems.

Participants will gain insights into making the case for microschools, navigating policy conditions, and designing effective structures, including project-based schedules and multi-age cohorts. Learn how public microschools can not only improve individual student experiences and outcomes but also deepen community connection, enhance system agility, and spark broader system innovation within public education. This session will equip leaders, educators, and community partners with the tools and real-world examples needed to create purposeful, context-driven learning environments that are both responsive solutions and strategic investments in the future of public schooling.
