The Partner: Media and Storytelling position manages and supports the execution of the Getting Smart Media channel, coordinates the development of technology tools to advance the mission of Getting Smart and initiates and supports Getting Smart storytelling projects. 

Roles and Responsibilities

Storytelling and Creative Lead

Lead storytelling about the future of education at GettingSmart.com through the development and execution of annual plans, clear metrics of success, and creative innovation strategy, given the rapidly changing media landscape.

  • Content Pipeline: Support the content cycle of planning, publishing, and promotion. This includes managing the pipeline of publication for blog content, advising on storytelling and content for projects and campaigns, and authoring content. 
  • Media Channel: Coordinate and manage media channel output, including but not limited to design oversight, social media strategy, and supervision of contractors and content.
  • Brand Development: Help shape and hone Getting Smart’s unique voice and point of view through content creation and audience engagement. 
  • Annual Impact Update: Build and share the Annual Impact report.

Sponsorship and Partnership Development

Collaborate with other team members to build a creative media channel sponsorship plan.

  • Promotion: Manage and implement sharing and promotion strategies for blogs, publications, podcasts, books and other content. This includes the drafting of launch kits, overarching media strategy and outreach. This person will work alongside external partners to spread Getting Smart’s voice to other platforms (other podcasts, publications, etc.)
  • Growth: Set and manage ambitious, meaningful targets across channels to better understand our reach, engagement, and impact and routinely adjust tactics and investment levels to grow our reach and impact. Analyze social and audience data, develop and share insights, and recommend and implement new ways to optimize existing and future initiatives.

Technology Tool Development

Support initiatives to build new tools (including a website), incorporating emerging technologies to best meet the organizational mission.

  • Learning Innovation Platform: Develop and lead technical build management of the platform.
  • Website: Lead website development and updates,  including AI integration for external users.

Campaign and Client Work

Participates in client communication and content strategy projects, develop future campaign ideas, and develop and execute integrated promotion plans for major campaigns. Launch new initiatives and campaigns based on landscape needs.

  • Project Generation: Generate and follow up on leads for new projects. Create pilots and partnerships to accelerate new idea creation. 

Required Competencies

  • Creative Initiative: Creative and entrepreneurial mindset to develop new approaches to media and tools.
  • Technology: Comfort in AI technology skills, emerging tools, and communicating with technology engineers on product builds.
  • Project Management: Effectively manage projects and work within multiple timelines on multiple projects while communicating well about deadlines, deliverables and expectations.
  • Writing: Excellent writing skills, ability to produce high-quality writing in a variety of genres.
  • Analytical: Proven experience in designing, building, and monitoring metrics for media channel growth.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Effectively manage outside contractors or other employees working on the media and tools team.
