SUMMARY:The Great Education Unbundling: Rethinking Credit In The Modern Age
DESCRIPTION:For 25 years there has been steady expansion of the number of i

creasing quality options\, schools that reframe learning to credential\, c

will emerge as the next innovation — accessible\, personalized\, account

SUMMARY:What on Earth is a Metaverse?: The Next Frontier of Engaging and Le

DESCRIPTION:On this Getting Smart Town Hall we’re entering the metaverse
 … or at least\, we’re talking about it. Chances are\, you’ve seen a
lot about the metaverse in the last six months. You’ve also probably hea
rd a lot of other terms at the same time… NFTs\, block chain\, crypto\,
Web 3. We’re hosting this town hall to talk through what these terms mea
n and\, more specifically\, what they mean for the future of learning.\n\n
We’ll explore some of the following questions:\n\n Is the metaverse tec
hnically on “earth”?\n How far away is this from being a reality?\n
What does this mean for teaching and learning?\n What about equity and ac
cessibility?\n What about the power of place?\n\nMuch of this will be spe
culation and hypothesis but we can’t wait to have you along for the jour
ney through realities old\, new and imagined.

SUMMARY:Relationship Mapping: Unlock Support & Opportunity For All Learners
DESCRIPTION:Do you know who your students know? As schools strive to ensure
that all young people have access to supportive relationships\, work-base
d learning opportunities\, and postsecondary options\, they often rely on
scarce support staff and educators who are stretched thin. But what if sch
ools could authentically engage with all of the people their students alre
ady know beyond the four walls of the classroom? \n\nJoin Getting Smart\,
alongside Julia Freeland Fisher (Clayton Christensen Institute)\, Edward
DeJesus (Social Capital Builders\, Inc.) and Tyler Thigpen (The Forest Sch
ool) for a discussion of innovative approaches to mapping and analyzing st
udents' existing networks as a way to build more asset-based pathways. Lea
rn how building networks doesn’t just have to be about students meeting
new people\; it can be about students having new types of conversations wi
th people they already know. Discuss how these asset-based approaches coul
d make new pathways more relational\, better resourced\, and more deeply c
 onnected to students' existing communities.
