Deeper Learning For Every Student Every Day, Released!

As you may remember, a few weeks ago we published the executive summary and infographic for our newest white paper, Deeper Learning for Every Student Every Day. Now the full paper is now available for download!

Deeper Learning for Every Student Every Day is dedicated to dispelling the myths around Deeper Learning and proving that it can happen in any school, with all students, and every teacher. For the past few months we’ve been profiling 20 schools representing a range of urban, rural, suburban, district, charter, new and turnaround, that provide a collective vision for a system-wide shift to Deeper Learning.

This project matters to us, not only because we wanted to highlight 20 schools that are leading the way in their own communities, but because we want to shine a light on the greater potential of Deeper Learning experiences to reach every student, everywhere, every day.

Deeper Learning For Every Student Every Day

New paper features profiles of 20 schools that exemplify Deeper Learning

Seattle, Wash., December 17, 2013 – Today Getting Smart released Deeper Learning For Every Student Every Day, a white paper dedicated to dispelling the myths around Deeper Learning and proving that Deeper Learning competencies can be developed in any school, with all students, and every teacher. The paper is co-authored by Tom Vander Ark, CEO of Getting Smart and Carri Schneider, Getting Smart Director of Policy and Research.

With the goal of presenting a diverse national distribution, the paper reveals the lessons from 20 existing schools that Getting Smart interviewed and profiled. The schools–representing a range of urban, rural, suburban, district, charter, new and turnaround–provide living examples of Hewlett’s Deeper Learning competencies at work and create a collective vision for a system-wide shift to Deeper Learning.

“The schools profiled differ in terms of their characteristics and the student populations they serve,” says Schneider, “this shows that all students can thrive in Deeper Learning environments, not just those in traditionally high-performing settings.”

“Highlighting forward-leaning schools is a worthwhile task, but it is only a first step,” Vander Ark explains. “The true goal is to take lessons from existing models and apply them in order to cultivate Deeper Learning environments at scale.”

In addition to the paper, Getting Smart released an infographic, “Deeper Learning Making Every Student & Teacher a Superhero, Every Day” and will soon release a Deeper Learning video to accompany the paper and infographic.  This paper also complements the previously-released How Digital Learning Contributes to Deeper Learning white paper and infographic from Getting Smart.
