By Miguel Salinas, Program Director, Adobe Youth Voices, Adobe Foundation and Kristin Hirst, Director of Corporate Partnerships, Discovery Education
In coordination with the 2012 ISTE conference, the Adobe Foundation and Discovery Education hosted a ‘Day of Discovery’ and kicked off the event with an announcement on a partnership between the two.  With a shared passion for the power of technology in enhancing teaching and learning, the Adobe Foundation and Discovery Education partnered to provide a first look at free media making curriculum and resources for educators.
The Adobe Youth Voices Essentials curriculum provides educators with access to a collection of resources and a community of peer educators who have experience using digital media and technology in their classrooms. The curriculum was previewed by Discovery Education’s Discovery Education Network (DEN), a global community of educators who are passionate about teaching with digital media, sharing resources, collaborating and networking. The Essentials tools are designed to help educators anywhere to weave digital media making into their teaching practice to actively engaging students and help them gain technological skills to drive them towards their passions and professional careers.
“The Day of Discovery was the perfect venue for us to showcase our Adobe Youth Voices Essentials curriculum to the educational professionals who will be reached by way of our collaboration with Discovery Education,” said Miguel Salinas. “The curriculum will help engage young media makers from around the globe, and our collaboration in technology and education provides even more educators with the professional tools to fuel their students’ curiosities.”
The day of professional development continued for more than 100 educators, during which they learned creative ways to engage students and invigorate curriculum using 21st century tools and resources.
“Discovery Education was pleased to partner with the Adobe Foundation to provide professional development to more than 100 educators from across the country and share this unique and innovative program,” said Kristin Hirst. “By participating in the Day of Discovery, attendees demonstrated their leadership and commitment to utilizing digital resources to enrich classroom learning experiences and help students explore their curiosity and learn skills critical for 21st century careers. Their engagement and enthusiasm throughout the event inspired our teams to continue efforts to empower educators with digital resources.”
