Students Report On the Oakland Occupy Movement

Students from the Media Enterprise Alliance at KDOL-TV reported on the Occupy Movement at Frank Ogawa Plaza and other locations in Oakland, Calif. in late January 2012. These students demonstrated talented reporting, telling the story of the protest through a different lens than the mainstream media.
The students captured a more positive view of the movement, showcasing the community support and interaction that happened at the park. In addition, they gathered opinions from their peers to receive insight on how the viewpoints and actions of current society will have an affect on the future.
The takeaway: This video demonstrates how students can leverage technology to produce a personalized, inside look at the curent events in their local neighborhood. The published video also offers a timely report on a historical moment in the last year, contributing to the documentation of history. It also offers an interesting retrospective view on the Occupy Movement.
